Breakfast in London, lunch in Manhattan
London to New York is the most flown private route across the Atlantic, and the fleets on both sides reflect it. A heavy jet such as the Legacy 650 or Falcon 900LX flies it non-stop in about seven and a half hours against the westbound headwind; an ultra-long-range cabin is faster and quieter; a super-midsize jet refuels at Gander or Shannon and arrives about an hour later at a lower price.
The five-hour time difference makes the morning departure the classic pattern: leave Farnborough at 9 am and land at Teterboro at 11.30 am local time. Customs clears at the FBO by prior arrangement, and Midtown is twenty-five to forty minutes away.
Teterboro caps aircraft at 100,000 lb, so VIP airliners use JFK or Newark, and Westchester is the quieter choice for the Upper East Side and Connecticut.
