How to buy a Patek Philippe today

Patek Philippe sells through its own salons and authorised retailers, and the steel sports watches are placed with established clients. Ask for a Nautilus or an Aquanaut at retail and you are usually offered a place on an interest list with no date, often after a purchase history the retailer wants to see first.

We work outside that process. Tell us the reference and the details that matter, and we go to our network and come back with what is realistic before you commit. The individual watch is then described in writing: condition, the date on the papers, and what comes with it.

Most of the requests we see are for the Nautilus, in steel and in gold, and for the chronograph and travel-time references. The steel 5711 ended in 2021, which is why its final versions are among the watches we are asked for most.

Patek Philippe collections and references

A collection name is a starting point. Reference, generation, material and configuration identify the watch more precisely.

Nautilus

Designed by Gérald Genta and launched in 1976, with the porthole-shaped case and the horizontally embossed dial. The steel time-only 5711 ended in 2021; the family continues in gold and with complications.

  • 5711/1A-014Steel, olive green dial, 2021
  • 5811/1GWhite gold, blue dial, 41 mm, from 2022
  • 5980/1RRose gold, flyback chronograph
  • 5990/1ASteel, chronograph and travel time
  • 5990/1RRose gold, chronograph and travel time

Aquanaut

Introduced in 1997 as a more relaxed sports watch, with a rounded octagonal case and the composite "Tropical" strap. References cover time-only, travel-time and chronograph versions.

  • 5167ASteel, time-only
  • 5164ASteel, Travel Time
  • 5968ASteel, flyback chronograph

Calatrava

Patek Philippe's round dress watch since 1932, when the reference 96 set the proportions. Generations differ in case size, dial and movement, so a reference number saves a long conversation.

  • 96The original, 1932
  • 519637 mm, manual winding
  • 611939 mm, hobnail bezel, from 2021

Complications

Annual and perpetual calendars, chronographs, world time and minute repeaters. Each needs assessment specific to the reference, including how every function has been checked.

  • 5205Annual calendar
  • 5270Perpetual calendar chronograph
  • 5930World time flyback chronograph

What to check before you buy

  1. Give the full reference with its suffix. On a Nautilus the suffix identifies the dial: it is what separates a 5711/1A-010 from a 5711/1A-014.
  2. Ask how each complication has been checked, and when the watch was last serviced.
  3. Check the bracelet. Nautilus bracelets are specific to the reference, and their condition and the links included change the watch.
  4. Confirm the papers, box and anything else that belongs with the watch, such as the setting tool for a calendar reference.
  5. Judge condition, originality and terms for the individual piece rather than relying on collection-level assumptions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a Patek Philippe Nautilus without a waiting list?

Yes. We do not go through the retailer's interest list. We source the reference through our network, confirm what is realistic on availability and timing for your request, and set out the individual watch in writing before you commit.

The 5711 is discontinued. Can you still find one?

Yes, through our network. The blue-dial 5711/1A-010 ran from 2006 to 2021 and is the most common version; the olive green 5711/1A-014 was made only in 2021 and is harder to find. Tell us which dial you want, or whether either will do.

What replaced the Nautilus 5711?

The 5811/1G, launched in 2022 in white gold with a blue dial and a 41 mm case. There is no steel time-only successor, which is why the 5711 remains the reference we are asked for most.

Will the watch come with box and papers?

Tell us if a full set matters and we search on that basis. What accompanies the watch is confirmed for the individual piece and listed in writing before you decide. For Patek Philippe that includes whether the certificate is present.

Can I pay for a Patek Philippe in crypto?

Yes. Bank transfer in any major currency, or Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT and other major coins and stablecoins. The asset, network and amount are confirmed with you before any transfer, and only once the individual watch is agreed.
