How to choose a private jet

The right aircraft is the smallest one that flies the route comfortably with your party and your luggage, from the airports you want to use. Six questions decide it, roughly in this order.

  1. Distance The flight time decides the cabin before anything else. Under three hours, a light or midsize jet is the sensible choice. Coast to coast or across Europe, a super-midsize. The Atlantic non-stop starts at the heavy jets; twelve hours and more is ultra-long-range territory.
  2. Runway Some airports rule aircraft out. Short, high or hot runways such as Aspen, St Barths, London City or Lugano take only certain types, and some take them only at reduced weight. We check the airport before we check the price.
  3. Passengers Count the seats you want to use, not the certified maximum. A heavy jet listed at fourteen is comfortable for ten on a long leg. If people need to sleep, count flat beds rather than seats.
  4. Luggage Skis, golf bags and a family's luggage change the answer. Light jets carry a weekend bag each. For long trips, bulky kit or a pet in the cabin, the hold and whether it is reachable in flight matter as much as the seats.
  5. Cabin Stand-up height, a proper lavatory, a galley, a bed. Worth paying for on anything over three hours. Working flights want a table and reliable Wi-Fi; overnight flights want a separate rest area.
  6. Budget The smallest aircraft that does the job well is usually the right one. Hourly rates rise by cabin, but on long legs a larger aircraft that flies non-stop can cost less per person than two smaller ones or a fuel stop.

Charter arranged around you

One team handles the trip from the first message to the car at the other end: the aircraft, the crew, catering, the private terminal and the border. Bank transfer in any major currency, or crypto.

01

Sourced worldwide, around the clock

We search operators at both ends of your route and in between, at any hour, rather than selling the aircraft one company happens to own.

02

Written options, not an estimate

Usually two or three aircraft with a firm price each, photographs of the actual aircraft, the operator's name and our reasoning. Most enquiries have options the same day.

03

Private by default

Your name, your plans and your guests stay with the people who need them to fly you. We use a private terminal wherever the airport has one.

04

Plans that move

Dates change, a guest joins, a meeting runs late. We rework the trip with the operator and tell you what it changes, before it changes.

Frequently asked questions

How do you choose the right private jet for my trip?

We start from the route and the party: distance, the airports at each end, how many are flying, the luggage and whether anyone needs to sleep. That narrows the choice to a cabin class, and within it we propose the aircraft available near your departure with the cabin, age and operator that suit the trip. You see two or three priced options and our reasoning.

How aircraft selection works

How many passengers can a private jet carry?

Light jets typically seat six or seven, midsize jets seven or eight, super-midsize jets eight or nine, heavy jets ten to fourteen and ultra-long-range jets typically thirteen to sixteen. VIP airliners such as the Airbus Corporate Jet or the Boeing Business Jet carry from about nineteen to fifty in a private layout. On a long flight, plan for fewer passengers than the certified maximum.

How far can a private jet fly without stopping?

From about 2,000 nm in a light jet to more than 7,500 nm in the longest-range business jets. Published range is measured in set conditions; on the day it depends on passengers and luggage, winds, the airports and the reserves the operator carries, so a westbound Atlantic crossing in winter needs more margin than the brochure figure suggests.

Flight times on popular routes

How much luggage can I take on a private jet?

It depends on the aircraft far more than on any airline-style allowance. A light jet takes a soft weekend bag each; a heavy or ultra-long-range jet takes a family's luggage for a fortnight, and many have a hold you can reach in flight. Tell us about skis, golf bags or hard cases when you enquire and we choose the aircraft around them.

Can I bring my dog or cat?

Usually, yes, in the cabin with you, subject to the operator's agreement and the entry rules at the destination. The UK, the EU, the UAE and several islands have strict pet import rules, so give us a few weeks of notice for an international trip with a pet.

Is there Wi-Fi on board?

On most midsize and larger aircraft, yes, but the system varies by aircraft and operator: from basic connectivity over land to fast Ka-band service that handles video calls over the ocean. If connection matters, say so and we confirm the system fitted to the aircraft we propose.

Wi-Fi on private jets

How much notice do you need?

A few hours for a short flight when an aircraft and crew are nearby, and usually a day for a long-range trip. A week or more keeps the choice of aircraft open, and for peak dates such as Christmas, the Monaco Grand Prix or the Super Bowl it is worth booking as soon as the dates are fixed.

How much does it cost to charter a private jet?

Charter is priced per aircraft, not per seat: an hourly rate for the cabin class multiplied by the flying time, plus positioning, airport charges and anything the trip asks for. As a guide, a light jet costs about $3,500 to $5,500 an hour and a heavy jet about $9,000 to $13,000. We quote the whole trip as one figure in writing.
