Heavy jet · Embraer
The Legacy 650 is Embraer's airliner-based heavy jet, chosen by large parties with a lot of luggage for its three cabin zones and a hold bigger than most long-range jets carry.
Eight to twelve people who want room to spread out and bring their luggage, such as a family skiing with boot bags and skis or a team with equipment. The three zones let the front of the cabin work or eat while the back sleeps.
With thirteen or fourteen seats it carries more than a Challenger 605 or Falcon 2000LXS. Pick the Challenger for a cabin a foot wider, the Falcon for short or steep-approach runways, and a Falcon 7X once the trip passes about 3,500 nm.
The cabin reads as a long room rather than a wide one, and passing in the aisle means turning sideways. It is a little slower than the Falcons and Globals and needs a long take-off run for its size. Embraer stopped selling it in 2020, so every aircraft is at least five years old.
Published figures for the type. Seating, beds and connectivity vary with each aircraft's layout and operator, and we confirm them for the actual aircraft before you book.

Range as published: Four passengers, long-range cruise, NBAA IFR reserves (Embraer). About 3,650 nm with every seat filled. On the day it depends on passengers and luggage, winds, the airports, temperature and the reserves the operator carries.

Embraer built the Legacy 650 on the fuselage of its ERJ-135 regional airliner, lowering the aisle for 6 ft of headroom. The cabin runs about 42 ft behind the cockpit, and most charter aircraft split it into three zones: a club of four, a second club or dining group, and a divan with more seats at the back. The 650E of 2017 restyled the cabin.
Thirteen or fourteen seats in three zones on most executive layouts. Twelve is a comfortable number for a long flight.
About four passengers can sleep flat on a typical layout, using the aft divan and berthing club seats.
286 cu ft, pressurised and reachable in flight: skis, golf bags and a week's luggage for a full cabin.
Up to two. Where a forward crew lavatory is fitted, the aft one is for passengers only.
Varies by aircraft. Some have satellite Wi-Fi that works over the ocean; others have air-to-ground systems that work over land only. We confirm the system before you book.
Embraer publishes 3,900 nm with four passengers at long-range cruise and NBAA IFR reserves, and industry guides give about 3,650 nm with every seat filled. A westbound winter crossing uses more of that than the map suggests; plan on about 3,500 nm with ten aboard. London to New York is usually non-stop, New York to London comfortably so; London to the Maldives or anything to Tokyo needs a stop.
The 5,741 ft take-off distance is for maximum weight at sea level. The aircraft fits Aspen's wingspan and weight limits, but summer heat there restricts take-off weight, so a full cabin heading back east may stop for fuel.
Trips this aircraft flies well, each with its own page: the airports at both ends, flight times and indicative prices by cabin.
The Legacy 650 prices among the heavy jets rather than the ultra-long-range types. With thirteen or fourteen seats, the cost per seat for a full party is often lower than on a Challenger 605 or Falcon 2000LXS, and a large family may not need a second aircraft. A return with the aircraft waiting is usually well below two one-way flights, and the written quote names the aircraft, its year and layout.
As a guide, heavy jets charter at about $9,000 to $13,000 an hour for the aircraft, crew and fuel. Positioning, airport charges, overnight costs and the season are added for the trip, and the quote is one figure in writing.
When the Legacy 650 is not available on your dates, or the trip asks for something slightly different, these are the aircraft we would put beside it.

Most executive layouts seat thirteen or fourteen in three zones. For a long flight, twelve is comfortable, and about four can sleep flat on a typical layout.
Embraer publishes 3,900 nm with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves. With a full cabin and real winds, plan on about 3,500 nm, which covers London to New York, London to Dubai and New York to Los Angeles.
Yes, on the main North Atlantic routes. New York to London is comfortably non-stop; London to New York usually is, though on some winter days with every seat filled the crew will plan a fuel stop. Longer flights such as London to Los Angeles always need a stop.
The 650E, introduced in 2017, has synthetic vision and autothrottle as standard and a restyled three-zone interior. Range, cabin size and baggage are the same, so on a charter the difference is mainly the age and finish of the cabin.
The hold is 286 cu ft, pressurised and reachable in flight, which is more than many ultra-long-range jets carry. It takes skis, golf bags and a week's luggage for a full cabin.
Yes. It is within Aspen's 95 ft wingspan and weight limits. In summer, heat at Aspen's altitude restricts take-off weight, so a full cabin returning to the East Coast may need a fuel stop.
No. Embraer stopped selling it in 2020. The Legacy 650s flying today are privately owned or with charter operators, and we check the age and refurbishment of each aircraft we propose.
