How to buy an Audemars Piguet today

Audemars Piguet sells through its own boutiques and AP Houses, and the steel Royal Oak references are usually allocated to existing clients rather than sold over the counter. Ask for a 15510ST or a 16202ST as a new client and you are likely to hear there is no list to join, or a list with no date on it.

We work outside that queue. Tell us the reference, the dial, and whether you want an unworn watch or are happy with one that has been worn. We go to our network and come back with what is realistic before you commit. The individual watch is then described in writing: condition, the date on the papers, and what comes with it.

Most of the requests we see are for the Royal Oak in steel: the Selfwinding, the chronograph and the perpetual calendar. The Offshore and the Code 11.59 come up less often and are usually quicker to find.

Audemars Piguet collections and references

A collection name is a starting point. Reference, generation, material and configuration identify the watch more precisely.

Royal Oak

Launched in 1972 and designed by Gérald Genta: the octagonal bezel, eight hexagonal screws and a bracelet built into the case. The line now runs from the time-only Selfwinding to the chronograph and the perpetual calendar, in steel, gold and ceramic.

  • 15510STSelfwinding, 41 mm, calibre 4302
  • 26240STSelfwinding Chronograph, 41 mm, calibre 4401
  • 26574STPerpetual Calendar, 41 mm, calibre 5134

Royal Oak Offshore

Introduced in 1993 as a bigger, heavier Royal Oak, and still the family for chronographs, strong colours and unusual materials. The current chronograph is 43 mm, on straps that change without tools.

  • 26420Selfwinding Chronograph, 43 mm, calibre 4401
  • 26470Selfwinding Chronograph, 42 mm, the previous generation

Code 11.59

Launched in 2019. A round case with an octagonal middle section and a sapphire crystal curved in two directions, offered as time-only, chronograph and complicated references.

  • 15210Selfwinding, 41 mm
  • 26393Selfwinding Chronograph, 41 mm

Historical references

Earlier Royal Oaks, and the dress and complicated watches Audemars Piguet made before them. Each needs research specific to the reference and period, and more attention to originality.

  • 5402STThe original Royal Oak "Jumbo", 1972
  • 15202STExtra-Thin, the Jumbo before the 16202ST
  • 26331STRoyal Oak Chronograph, before the 26240ST

What to check before you buy

  1. Give the full reference, including the suffix on the papers. Two Royal Oaks with the same base reference can carry different dials, and the suffix says which.
  2. Check the bracelet. An integrated bracelet cannot be swapped for a standard one, so its condition, stretch and the links included matter more than on most watches.
  3. Ask whether the case has been polished. The Royal Oak alternates brushed and polished surfaces, and a heavy polish softens edges that cannot be put back.
  4. Confirm the papers, box and service history, and whether the watch is still covered by the manufacturer warranty.
  5. Review the individual watch and the purchase terms. Broad market demand does not establish value or future performance.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak without a waiting list?

Yes. We do not go through the boutique allocation. We source the reference through our network, confirm what is realistic on availability and timing for your request, and set out the individual watch in writing before you commit.

Which Royal Oak should I ask for?

The watch most people picture is the Selfwinding 41 mm in steel with a blue dial, today the 15510ST. The 16202ST Jumbo is thinner and closer to the 1972 original. The 26240ST adds a chronograph. If you are unsure, tell us how you will wear it and we narrow it down with you.

Do you source discontinued references such as the 15202ST or 26331ST?

Yes. An earlier generation can be easier to find than the current one, and it is a good choice if the exact movement or production year does not matter to you. Condition and documentation vary more, so we set them out for the individual watch.

Will the watch come with box and papers?

Tell us if a full set matters and we search on that basis. What accompanies the watch is confirmed for the individual piece and listed in writing before you decide.

Can I pay for an Audemars Piguet in crypto?

Yes. Bank transfer in any major currency, or Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT and other major coins and stablecoins. The asset, network and amount are confirmed with you before any transfer, and only once the individual watch is agreed.
