Coast to coast without a stop
New York to Los Angeles is 2,450 miles and the most flown transcontinental private route in the country. A super-midsize jet such as the Challenger 350 flies it non-stop in about five and three-quarter hours against the westbound headwind. Heavy and ultra-long-range cabins are faster and quieter. Midsize jets refuel in the middle of the country and land about an hour later at a lower price.
The three-hour time difference makes the morning the natural pattern: leave Teterboro at 9 am and land at Van Nuys before 11.30 am local time, with the whole working day ahead. Van Nuys is thirty minutes from Beverly Hills; Burbank suits the studios and the hills; LAX takes the VIP airliners.
Aircraft are based at both ends in numbers, so a same-day departure is usually possible and one-way pricing is competitive.
