Midsize jet · Raytheon Aircraft
The Hawker 800XP is an older midsize jet with a long, 6 ft wide cabin and the range for about four and a half hours with eight aboard, chosen when one is close by and its interior has been kept up.
Six to eight people on a leg of one to four and a half hours: Houston to Dallas for the day, or New York to Dallas or Providenciales without a stop. The bags travel inside the cabin, and the lavatory is at the back.
It descends from the de Havilland DH.125 of 1962 through the British Aerospace 125-800. Raytheon bought BAe's corporate jet business in 1993 and renamed the type the Hawker 800; the 800XP, with more powerful Honeywell engines, followed in 1995 and was built until 2005, 426 in all.
The Citation XLS+ is newer, carries more luggage and needs less runway, but its cabin is narrower and it has about 800 nm less range. The Citation Latitude has a six-foot flat floor and a newer cabin, for a higher price. The Hawker's case is a roomy cabin and non-stop range at an older aircraft's price.
Age: the youngest 800XP is more than 20 years old, and the interior, avionics and Wi-Fi depend on how each owner has kept it. Luggage: about 50 cu ft, all inside the cabin, which is tight for eight with golf bags or skis. Runway: 5,030 ft at maximum weight at sea level, and much more at high or hot airports.
Published figures for the type. Seating, beds and connectivity vary with each aircraft's layout and operator, and we confirm them for the actual aircraft before you book.

Range as published: four passengers and two crew with NBAA IFR reserves, as Raytheon published it in 2004; Aviation Week gives 2,470 nm. Aircraft later fitted with winglets burn a little less fuel. On the day it depends on passengers and luggage, winds, the airports, temperature and the reserves the operator carries.

All three share one fuselage and cabin and the same Mach 0.80 limit. The 850XP of 2006 added winglets and a redesigned interior; the 900XP, built from 2008, kept both and took Honeywell's TFE731-50R engines for more range and better performance in heat and at altitude. Some 800XPs have since had winglets fitted, as the 800XP2, or winglets and the 900XP's engines, as the 800XPR, so we confirm the standard of each aircraft we quote.

Every 800XP is now more than 20 years old and is valued at about a fifth of the 2005 new price. Avionics move the price: Aviation Week found values varying with the flight deck and most buyers choosing later aircraft with Pro Line 21. A six-seat cabin sells for less, and more slowly, than the usual eight.

The cabin runs 21 ft 4 in from the cockpit divider to the rear bulkhead, lavatory included, and keeps its 5 ft 9 in of headroom along the whole length. Raytheon's standard layout has a club of four forward and a single seat facing a three-place divan aft, with the galley by the door and a baggage closet opposite it. Interiors have been refitted to different standards over the years, so what you see inside depends on the aircraft rather than the factory.
About 50 cu ft, all inside: a 33 cu ft closet with a coat rail opposite the door and 16.5 cu ft behind the lavatory. Everything can be reached in flight.
A galley beside the door, fitted differently on each aircraft, and an enclosed lavatory at the back with a flushing toilet.
Interiors range from original finishes to recent refits with new leather, lighting and Wi-Fi. We send photographs of the actual aircraft with every option.
Raytheon published 2,540 nm with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves, and Aviation Week gives 2,470 nm. With eight aboard and a headwind, plan on legs of up to about four and a half hours. That covers New York to Dallas or Turks and Caicos with a margin; New York to Los Angeles westbound with a full cabin usually means a fuel stop.
Runways and heat are the limit. The published take-off distance is 5,030 ft at maximum weight at sea level, and Aviation Week gives 8,800 ft from an airfield 5,000 ft up at ISA+20°C. Aspen, about 7,800 ft above sea level with an 8,006 ft runway, is flown by suitably qualified crews, but on warm days the operator limits fuel or passengers for the departure.
Trips this aircraft flies well, each with its own page: the airports at both ends, flight times and indicative prices by cabin.
The route tables on this site price the Hawker 800XP in the same midsize row as the Citation XLS. The older airframe costs its owner less, it burns more fuel than a newer midsize, and on most sectors the two roughly cancel. Where the nearest free aircraft is moves the price most. Past about three and a half hours, the Hawker flies non-stop where a Citation XLS+ may need a fuel stop, and that can make it the cheaper of the two.
As a guide, midsize jets charter at about $5,000 to $7,000 an hour for the aircraft, crew and fuel. Positioning, airport charges, overnight costs and the season are added for the trip, and the quote is one figure in writing.
When the Hawker 800XP is not available on your dates, or the trip asks for something slightly different, these are the aircraft we would put beside it.

To buy, a pre-owned 800XP is valued at about $2.6 million for a 2001 aircraft to $3 million for a 2005 one (Aircraft Bluebook, October 2026), and 34 were listed at $1.9 million to $4 million. New, a 2005 800XP cost $12.9 million. Most of our clients charter instead and pay per trip: on our route pages a midsize jet such as the Hawker 800XP is from about $7,000 one way for Houston to Dallas and $22,000 for New York to Dallas, for the whole aircraft.
Its maximum operating speed is Mach 0.80. Raytheon published a cruise speed of 447 kn, about 514 mph, at 37,000 ft, and Aviation Week gives 402 kn for long-range cruise, flown when range matters more than time. New York to Dallas takes about three hours twenty westbound.
Eight in the standard layout: a club of four forward, then a single seat facing a three-place divan. Raytheon offered optional layouts of up to 12, which few charter aircraft use. We send the floor plan of the specific aircraft with each option.
Raytheon published 2,540 nm with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves; Aviation Week gives 2,470 nm. With eight aboard and a headwind, plan on up to about four and a half hours, enough for New York to Dallas or to Turks and Caicos non-stop. New York to Los Angeles westbound with a full cabin usually needs a fuel stop.
No. Raytheon delivered 426 between 1995 and 2005, and JETNET counted 361 still in operation in October 2026. Its successors, the 850XP and 900XP, were built until 2012. Raytheon sold its aircraft business in 2007 to the new Hawker Beechcraft, which went bankrupt in 2012 and came out of it in 2013 as Beechcraft, without its business jets. Textron bought Beechcraft in 2014, so the Hawker name now sits with Textron Aviation, beside Cessna and Beechcraft.
The cabin is 5 ft 9 in high along its whole length, so anyone up to that height walks upright and taller passengers stoop a little. At 6 ft wide at shoulder height and 4 ft 3 in across the floor, it is roomier across than a Citation XLS+, though the Citation Latitude has a little more height and width.
About 50 cu ft, all inside the cabin: a 33 cu ft closet opposite the door and 16.5 cu ft behind the lavatory, both reachable in flight. That suits soft bags for eight, or suitcases for four to six. Golf bags and skis are tight, so tell us what you are bringing and we will check the aircraft.
They share the same fuselage, cabin and Mach 0.80 limit. The 850XP of 2006 added winglets and a redesigned interior, and its published range with four passengers is 2,642 nm against the 800XP's 2,540 nm. The 900XP, built from 2008 to 2012, added Honeywell TFE731-50R engines that perform better in heat and at altitude, and 2,818 nm of range. For a passenger the difference is mostly the age and fit of the cabin, so the three are often offered for the same trip.
The Hawker has a wider, longer cabin (6 ft against 5 ft 6 in across, 21 ft 4 in against 18 ft 6 in long) and about 800 nm more range, so it flies four-hour legs without a stop. The XLS+ is newer, carries about 90 cu ft of luggage and uses shorter runways. Under three hours with a lot of luggage, pick the XLS+; past three and a half hours, the Hawker.
When the cabin was last refurbished, which avionics it has (aircraft from 2002 on have Collins Pro Line 21; older ones Pro Line 4 or Honeywell SPZ-8000 unless upgraded), whether it has been fitted with winglets, and whether it has Wi-Fi. We send these details and photographs of the actual aircraft with each option, and every aircraft we propose is flown by an operator holding an air operator certificate.
