Houston to Dallas: a day trip that works

Houston to Dallas is 239 miles, about fifty minutes in a light jet against three and a half to four hours on I-45. Most of our Houston clients leave from Hobby, twenty minutes from downtown and the Medical Center, or from Sugar Land for the Galleria and the Energy Corridor; Bush Intercontinental is for the largest aircraft.

At the Dallas end, Love Field is ten to fifteen minutes from Uptown, Highland Park and downtown, and Addison suits Plano and Frisco. Both cities are in the same time zone, so a 7.30 am departure has you in Uptown before 9.

The aircraft can wait on the ramp while you work, which usually costs less than two one-way flights, and aircraft are based in numbers at both ends, so a same-day booking is almost always possible.

Which Dallas airport to land at is set out in our guide to the private jet airports in Dallas: FBOs, customs and curfews, side by side.

Hobby for downtown and the Medical Center, Bush Intercontinental for the largest cabins, Sugar Land for the west, Conroe and Hooks for The Woodlands.

What the flight costs

Prices below are indicative one-way figures for the whole aircraft, not per seat. They include the flight, crew and fuel; parking, repositioning and handling are quoted once we know your dates.

Operators bill a minimum of about two flying hours a day, so a same-day return on the same aircraft is usually priced well below two separate one-way flights.

The hourly rate for each cabin, and what moves a quote up or down, are in our private jet charter cost guide.

Aircraft for a Houston to Dallas day trip

Fifty minutes does not need a large cabin. A light jet takes four to six with briefcases; a midsize or super-midsize gives a team of eight a stand-up cabin and a table to work at, and a heavy jet is for a board or a group of twelve.

When Dallas fills up

Dallas is a business city first, so its peaks follow the corporate calendar and the big games.

  1. October Texas versus Oklahoma and the State Fair The Red River weekend fills Love Field's ramp; the State Fair runs for three weeks either side.
  2. Autumn Cowboys home games Sunday afternoons bring inbound light and midsize jets from across Texas and the South.
  3. May The Byron Nelson and Colonial Two PGA Tour weeks back to back; a steady stream of corporate aircraft.
  4. Thanksgiving The long weekend The Wednesday before and the Sunday after are the busiest private days of the autumn.
  5. December to January Christmas and New Year Outbound to Aspen, Cabo and the Caribbean peaks in the week before Christmas.

Dallas to Houston

Dallas to Houston is the same fifty minutes, from Love Field or Addison to Hobby or Sugar Land. For a day trip we keep the aircraft and crew on the ramp at the far end, so the return leaves when the meeting ends rather than at a set time.

Game days and the State Fair of Texas in the autumn bring more traffic into Love Field, and we book the parking with the flight.
