Three hours to Grace Bay

New York to Providenciales is 1,300 miles, which a light jet flies non-stop in about three and a half hours and a midsize cabin in a little over three. This is one of the busiest winter routes from the north-east. The private terminal at Providenciales clears customs and immigration in minutes.

Grace Bay is ten minutes from the airport. South Caicos, a short hop east, serves the newer resorts on that side and avoids the boat transfer. The airport is not open around the clock, so we time the arrival for its operating hours.

Aircraft are based in New York in numbers, so a same-day departure is usually possible. A round trip with the aircraft waiting a few days is often the better value.

When Turks and Caicos fills up

Turks and Caicos has a short high season and a handful of weeks when Grace Bay's villas and the airport's parking are full.

  1. December to January Christmas and New Year The busiest fortnight; villa and jet parking both booked months ahead.
  2. February Presidents' Day and half term A short peak for family travel from the north-east.
  3. March to April Spring break and Easter Steady traffic from New York and Miami; light jets go first.
  4. Thanksgiving The long weekend A four-day surge in arrivals from the East Coast.
  5. September to October Hurricane season Quiet and cheaper, with many resorts closed for part of the period.

Turks and Caicos to New York

The return leaves from Providenciales or South Caicos and lands at Teterboro, Westchester, JFK or Newark, where customs is cleared at the FBO. Allow about three hours northbound.

In the Christmas fortnight, over Presidents' Day and at Easter, parking at Providenciales is the scarce resource, and we secure the return when we book the outbound.
