Sleeping
Gulfstream quoted beds for up to eight when the cabin is configured for it. Charter layouts usually sleep fewer, so count flat beds, not seats, for a night flight.

Ultra-long-range jet · Gulfstream
The G550 was Gulfstream's long-range flagship from 2003 until the G650 arrived. More than 600 were built, so it remains one of the most common long-range jets on the charter market, and it usually costs less than its successor.
Eight to twelve people on legs of six to twelve hours: London to New York or Los Angeles, the Gulf to Europe, the US West Coast to Tokyo. With three or four zones, a meeting can run at the front while others sleep at the back.
The G650 is faster, wider and quieter, with a lower cabin altitude, and costs more. The Global 6000 and Falcon 7X are the usual alternatives at a similar price; both have slightly wider cabins, and the Falcon's is shorter. The G550's case is availability: a large fleet, flown and maintained by many operators.
Age: every G550 was built between 2003 and 2021, so ask for the year and the last cabin refit. Its cabin altitude is higher than in the newer Gulfstreams. New York to Dubai or Los Angeles to Sydney with a full cabin takes a fuel stop.
Published figures for the type. Seating, beds and connectivity vary with each aircraft's layout and operator, and we confirm them for the actual aircraft before you book.

The G550 is a developed GV, and both sit on one type certificate. From 2004 Gulfstream also sold the G550 with less fuel and fixed option packages as the G500, which has nothing to do with the all-new G500 launched in 2014. We say which version you are offered.

Every G550 is now pre-owned. Age sets most of the price: Aircraft Bluebook values the last aircraft off the line at about three times the first, and hours, maintenance status and the cabin explain the rest.
| Aircraft | Indicative price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| G550, last new price | About $62 million | 2021 (Aviation Week, Nov 2025) |
| Pre-owned G550, value | About $11.5m (early) to $34m (last built) | Aircraft Bluebook via Aviation Week, Nov 2025 |
| Pre-owned G550, for sale | About $15.5m to $35m asking | The Jet Agent, Sept 2026; sold $10.25m to $29m |
| Pre-owned GV | About $5.5m to $11m asking | Guardian Jet, 16 listed, Oct 2026 |
Indicative, in US dollars, checked October 2026. A given aircraft's price depends on its year, hours, maintenance status and cabin. For reference only, not an offer to buy or sell.

The cabin is 43 ft 11 in long without the baggage hold, 7 ft 4 in wide and 6 ft 2 in high, with fourteen of Gulfstream's large oval windows, seven a side. Gulfstream offered layouts of up to four living areas; most charter aircraft run from a forward club of four through a dining or conference group to an aft divan or a second club.
Gulfstream quoted beds for up to eight when the cabin is configured for it. Charter layouts usually sleep fewer, so count flat beds, not seats, for a night flight.
Fresh air rather than recirculated, and a cabin altitude of no more than 6,000 ft at the 51,000 ft ceiling. A G650 holds about 4,850 ft at the same height.
Forward and aft lavatories on most aircraft, each with a vacuum toilet, so a party of a dozen is not queuing for one.
Gulfstream publishes 6,750 nm at Mach 0.80 with eight passengers, four crew and NBAA IFR reserves; at the faster Mach 0.85 cruise the figure is lower. Headwinds, a full cabin and winter luggage cut it further, so in practice a G550 is comfortable on legs of up to about twelve hours, and the longest city pairs in its brochure need a light load and kind winds.
Take-off needs 5,910 ft at maximum weight at sea level, and landing about 2,770 ft. The 93 ft 6 in wingspan is within Aspen's 95 ft limit, which the G650 exceeds. Summer heat at Aspen's altitude still limits how much fuel it can lift, so a long leg out of Aspen may start with a stop.
Trips this aircraft flies well, each with its own page: the airports at both ends, flight times and indicative prices by cabin.
A G550 usually quotes below a G650 or Global 6500 and close to a Global 6000 or Falcon 7X. Within the type, the year and the last cabin refit matter: a late aircraft with a new interior and Ka-band Wi-Fi costs more than an early one with its original cabin. Positioning, crew overnights, handling and the season are added for the trip.
As a guide, ultra-long-range jets charter at about $12,000 to $16,000 an hour for the aircraft, crew and fuel. Positioning, airport charges, overnight costs and the season are added for the trip, and the quote is one figure in writing.
When the G550 is not available on your dates, or the trip asks for something slightly different, these are the aircraft we would put beside it.

To buy, pre-owned G550s were listed at $15.5 to $34.95 million in September 2026, and the 28 sales of the previous six months ran from $10.25 million to $29 million. Aircraft Bluebook values them from about $11.5 million for the earliest to $34 million for the last built, which sold new for about $62 million in 2021. To charter, you pay per trip rather than per aircraft; see the next question.
It depends on the route, where the nearest available aircraft is, the season and the days on the ground. A G550 usually quotes below a G650 of the same age, within the ultra-long-range band shown above. Send us the route and dates and we reply with firm quotes in writing. Bank transfer in any major currency; crypto also accepted.
Its maximum operating speed is Mach 0.885. It cruises at Mach 0.85 (about 488 kn, or 562 mph) when time matters and at Mach 0.80 (about 459 kn) on the longest legs, the speed behind Gulfstream's 6,750 nm range figure. At Mach 0.87, the range with eight passengers falls to about 6,000 nm.
Gulfstream publishes 6,750 nm at Mach 0.80 with eight passengers, four crew and NBAA IFR reserves. That is a still-air figure. In practice a G550 flies London to Los Angeles or Los Angeles to Tokyo without a stop, while New York to Dubai with a full cabin usually takes a fuel stop in Europe.
The G550 is a developed GV. Gulfstream delivered GVs from 1997 and built 193 by the end of 2002, then cut drag by about 2%, added a seventh window on each side, moved the door 2 ft forward and fitted the PlaneView flight deck with a head-up display and enhanced vision as standard. Published range rose from 6,500 nm to 6,750 nm. The G500 sold from 2004 was a G550 with less fuel (5,800 nm) and fixed option packages, and few were built.
No. Gulfstream delivered the last commercially sold G550 in June 2021 and ended production that summer, after more than 600 had been built since 2003; the G600 replaced it in the range. The type is still in wide service and common in charter fleets, so the age of the aircraft matters. We give the year of manufacture and the last cabin refit with each option.
Up to 19 in the densest certified layout; most charter aircraft have 13 to 16 seats in three or four zones. Gulfstream quoted beds for up to eight in a cabin configured for it, so on a night flight a party of eight or fewer sleeps more comfortably. We send the floor plan of the specific aircraft.
The G650 succeeded it at the top of Gulfstream's range in 2012. Its cabin is about 10 in wider and nearly 3 ft longer, its top speed is higher (Mach 0.925 against 0.885), it publishes 7,000 nm and it holds a lower cabin altitude. The G550 usually costs less to charter, and its shorter wingspan fits Aspen, where a G650 cannot land.
Yes. Aspen-Pitkin County limits wingspan to 95 ft and weight to 100,000 lb; the G550's wingspan is 93 ft 6 in and its maximum take-off weight 91,000 lb. The airport sits at about 7,800 ft, so on a warm day the crew may take less fuel and plan a stop on a long leg out, and the night curfew and snow closures apply as to every aircraft.
They are close in price. The Global 6000 has the wider cabin, 7 ft 11 in against 7 ft 4 in; the G550 publishes about 750 nm more range, 6,750 nm against 6,000 nm. The choice usually comes down to the specific aircraft, its age and where it is parked, so we quote both when both are near your departure.
Where from, where to, the dates and how many are flying. We come back with priced G550 options and comparable aircraft, usually the same day.
