London to the island in an afternoon

Farnborough to Ibiza is 864 miles, about two hours and twenty minutes in a light jet and a little over two hours in anything larger. Every cabin class flies it without a stop, from any of the five London airports.

Ibiza has one airport, ten minutes from Ibiza Town and the marina and twenty-five from Santa Eulària, with border control inside the private terminal. Formentera has no airport; it is a short boat ride from the marina.

What makes this route different from the other short hops out of London is the summer. From June to September, arrivals, departures and overnight parking at Ibiza are slot-controlled and allocated weeks ahead. The aircraft is rarely the constraint; the slot and a place to park are.

Which London airport to leave from is set out in our guide to the private jet airports in London: FBOs, customs and curfews, side by side.

Farnborough for the west, Luton for the north and late departures, Biggin Hill for the City, Stansted for the largest cabins.

Summer slots and where the aircraft waits

In July and August, Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the slots that go first, and the fortnight around 15 August is the busiest of the year. A mid-week arrival is often possible at short notice; a Friday evening in August is not. We request the arrival and the return slot when we book the outbound.

Overnight parking on the island is the scarcest thing of all. For a stay of more than a day, the aircraft usually drops you, flies to Palma or Valencia, twenty-five to thirty-five minutes away, and comes back for the return. That repositioning is quoted with the flight, so the price you sign is the price you pay.

Outside the season, from October to May, the airport is quiet, a same-day flight is usually possible, and the aircraft can wait on the ramp.

The prices below are indicative one-way estimates for the whole aircraft, not per seat, from Farnborough to Ibiza. They include the flight, the crew and the fuel for an aircraft that is already in London.

They do not include landing and handling fees, taxes, or the summer repositioning to Palma or Valencia. Those depend on the date, the airports and the aircraft, so the written quote lists each one and gives a single total before you commit.

For a weekend or a longer stay, the quote prices the aircraft waiting off the island and two separate one-way flights, so you can compare the two.

The hourly rate for each cabin, and what moves a quote up or down, are in our guide to private jet charter costs.

Aircraft for two hours to the Balearics

A light jet is the easiest cabin to find a summer slot and a parking space for, and it carries a couple or a small group with their bags in about two hours and twenty minutes. A midsize or super-midsize cabin suits a villa party of eight; a heavy jet suits a family with staff, or a group that wants to stand up and eat on the way.

When Ibiza fills up

Ibiza's season runs from May to October, and the airport's summer slot programme decides who lands when. Slots and parking are allocated weeks ahead; the aircraft is rarely the problem.

  1. May Opening parties The first full weekends of the season; arrivals cluster on Friday and Saturday afternoons.
  2. June to September The summer slot programme Arrivals, departures and parking are slot-coordinated. We file with the flight and hold Palma or Valencia as the fallback.
  3. July to August Summer weekends Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons are the scarce slots; mid-week arrivals are far easier.
  4. Mid-August The peak fortnight The week either side of 15 August is the busiest of the year; overnight parking on the island is close to impossible.
  5. October Closing parties The last big weekends of the season, then the airport goes quiet until spring.

Ibiza to London

The return leaves Ibiza's private terminal and lands at Farnborough, Biggin Hill, Luton or London City in about two hours and twenty minutes, with UK Border Force inside the FBO. Most nationalities need a UK ETA or a visa; we confirm when we book.

In summer the Sunday afternoon departure slot is the hardest one to find, and Farnborough closes at 8 pm at weekends, so a late Sunday return lands at Luton or Biggin Hill instead.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private jet from London to Ibiza cost?

Indicative one-way pricing starts at about €13,000 for a light jet such as a Citation CJ3, €16,000 for a midsize jet, €21,000 for a super-midsize jet and €28,000 for a heavy jet, for the whole aircraft from Farnborough to Ibiza. Landing and handling fees, taxes and the summer repositioning to Palma or Valencia are listed in the written quote.

How long is the flight from London to Ibiza?

About two hours and twenty minutes from Farnborough in a light jet, and a little over two hours in a super-midsize or heavy jet. Luton and Stansted add a few minutes.

Can I get a slot at Ibiza in August?

Usually, if you book early and stay flexible on the hour. From June to September arrivals, departures and parking are slot-controlled; mid-week arrivals are far easier than Friday evenings, and the fortnight around 15 August is the hardest. We file both slots with the booking and hold Palma or Valencia as the fallback.

Can the aircraft wait in Ibiza for the return?

Outside the summer, yes. In July and August overnight parking on the island is rarely available, so the aircraft drops you and waits at Palma or Valencia, twenty-five to thirty-five minutes away, and the repositioning is quoted with the flight.

Can I fly from London to Formentera?

Formentera has no airport, so the flight lands at Ibiza and a boat takes you across from the marina, ten minutes from the private terminal. We book the car and the boat with the aircraft.

Can my dog fly with me to Ibiza?

Yes, in the cabin. Entering Spain, a dog or cat needs a microchip, rabies vaccination and an EU health certificate or pet passport. Coming back into Great Britain, dogs also need tapeworm treatment and the operator must be approved for pets at the London airport; we arrange both with the handlers.
