London to Mallorca: the airport, the party and the bags

Farnborough to Palma is 719 nautical miles, 827 statute miles. Every jet cabin flies it without a stop, from any of the five London airports, so the choice is about where you start, how many are travelling and how much they bring.

Palma is the only airport on Mallorca that takes jets. It serves the whole island: the old town is about 11 km away by road, Puerto Portals 23 km, Port d'Andratx 44 km and Pollença around 60 km, so where you are staying decides the car at the far end, not the airport.

Which London airport to leave from is set out in our guide to the private jet airports in London: FBOs, customs and curfews, side by side.

Farnborough for the west, Luton for the north and late departures, Biggin Hill for the City, Stansted for the largest cabins.

How long is the flight from London to Palma?

Our estimated block times, stand to stand; the time in the air is roughly a quarter of an hour less. Winds, routing and the slot on the day move them, and the operator gives its planned time with the quote.

Arriving at Palma: the terminal, slots and parking

Business aircraft use Palma's general aviation terminal, beside the main one, run by two authorised operators, Aviapartner and Mallorcair; every private flight needs a handling agent, who arranges passport and customs formalities for arrivals from outside Schengen. How long they take depends on the day and the passengers, so we do not promise a time. The EU's Entry/Exit System records UK and other non-EU visitors on entry. Son Bonet, the island's other airfield, does not accept jets.

Palma is slot-coordinated all year. From April to September a private flight files its arrival and departure in one request, and is not cleared to land until the slot is confirmed; from June to September an aircraft longer than 20 m may park for up to seven days unless the airport authorises more, and a full apron can mean a drop-off of a few hours only. There is no fixed booking deadline, but for a summer weekend asking early widens the choice of times.

London to Palma de Mallorca private jet cost

The figures below are our indicative one-way estimates for the whole aircraft, not per seat, from Farnborough to Palma, for an aircraft that is already in London. They are scaled by distance from our London to Ibiza figures, not taken from a quote for a particular date, and they cover the flight, the crew and the fuel.

Landing and handling fees, passenger charges, taxes, positioning, the crew's nights away and anything ordered on board are not included. Those depend on the date, the airports and the aircraft, so the operator's written quote lists each one and gives a single total before you commit.

The hourly rate for each cabin, and what moves a quote up or down, are in our guide to private jet charter costs.

Best airport pairing for London to Palma de Mallorca

Which jet fits the party and the luggage

Choose the cabin by the people and the bags, not the seat count alone. A light jet with five or six seats may not take six people with a week's luggage, golf bags or a pushchair; a midsize jet adds a stand-up aisle and a larger hold. Tell us the number and size of the cases and any unusual items, and we confirm the fit on the actual aircraft before you decide.

When Palma de Mallorca fills up

Mallorca's private traffic follows the summer and the sailing calendar. From June to September the general aviation apron is at its fullest, and the airport can limit a stay when it is short of space.

  1. Late April PalmaVela and the Palma International Boat Show The season's first regatta at the Real Club Náutico and the boat show in the port, usually in the same fortnight.
  2. Late June The Superyacht Cup Palma Four days of superyacht racing from Club de Mar, with owners and guests arriving at the start of the summer.
  3. July and August The summer peak Palma's busiest months. August is the airport's busiest overall; slots and parking for private aircraft are the constraint, not the aircraft.
  4. Early August Copa del Rey MAPFRE A week of racing in the Bay of Palma at the height of the season.

Palma de Mallorca to London

The return leaves Palma's general aviation terminal for Farnborough, Biggin Hill, London City, Luton or Stansted in about the same time. From April to September its slot is requested with the outbound. Farnborough closes at 8 pm at weekends, so a late Sunday return may land at Luton or Biggin Hill instead.

Before the flight the operator files the passenger details with UK Border Force, which may clear the arrival remotely or check passports on landing. Most non-British visitors need a UK ETA or a visa; we confirm when we book.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private jet from London to Palma cost?

Our indicative one-way estimates start at about €12,500 for a light jet such as a Citation CJ3, €15,500 for a midsize jet, €20,000 for a super-midsize jet and €27,000 for a heavy jet, for the whole aircraft from Farnborough to Palma. They are estimates, not quotes; landing, handling, taxes and any positioning come on top, and the written quote gives the total.

How is the final quote worked out?

From the aircraft the operator offers and the hours it flies for your trip, including any flying without you on board to position it, then the landing and handling fees, passenger charges and taxes at both airports, the crew's nights away if it waits in Mallorca, and catering or anything else ordered. Each item is listed in the operator's written quote with a single total before you commit.

How long is the flight from London to Palma?

About two hours and a quarter from Farnborough, Biggin Hill or London City in a light jet, gate to gate, and about two hours in a super-midsize jet; Luton and Stansted add about five minutes. The time in the air is roughly a quarter of an hour less, and winds and routing change it on the day.

Which London airport should we fly from?

The one that suits where you start and when you leave. Farnborough suits west London and Surrey but closes at 8 pm at weekends; Biggin Hill and London City are closest to the City, and London City takes only approved aircraft and closes from Saturday lunchtime to Sunday lunchtime; Luton is licensed around the clock; Stansted suits the largest cabins.

Which jet fits our party and bags?

Tell us how many are travelling and the number and size of the suitcases, plus anything like golf bags, a pushchair or a dog. A light jet suits a few people with soft bags; a midsize jet adds a stand-up aisle and a larger hold. We confirm the seats and what the hold takes on the actual aircraft, rather than going by the most seats a type can carry.

Can you arrange the return flight?

Yes. Give us the return date, or say it is still open, and the quote compares the aircraft waiting in Mallorca with two separate one-way flights. From April to September both Palma slots are requested together, and the quote says where the aircraft waits.

Can we change or cancel the flight after booking?

You can ask for a change at any time, such as a new time, date, airport or passenger list, and we ask the operator whether it can be done and what it costs. Whether a change or cancellation is charged, and how much, depends on the operator's contract for your flight, which you see before you sign.
