Dulles to Teterboro in under an hour

Washington to New York is 215 miles and every cabin class flies it in under an hour. The time saved is at the FBOs: Dulles's private terminal forty minutes from Georgetown, Teterboro's twenty-five minutes from Midtown, both with no security queue.

This is a business day-trip route. Leave Dulles at 7.30 am, land at Teterboro at 8.25 am, and be back in Washington by evening. Light jets and turboprops are most common; a midsize cabin suits a party of eight or a meeting on the way.

Reagan National is closer to downtown but private access needs a security programme clearance arranged days ahead; for a spontaneous trip, Dulles or Manassas is the answer.

The Georgetown waterfront and Key Bridge at dusk, the university spires behind
Dulles for most flights and international customs, Reagan National for the ten-minute drive when clearance is in place, Manassas for light jets.

What the flight costs

Prices below are indicative one-way figures for the whole aircraft, not per seat. They cover the flight, crew and fuel; Teterboro's handling and any parking are quoted separately.

A same-day return is usually priced well below two one-way flights, because the aircraft avoids an overnight. Ask for the figure on your dates.

Teterboro is the usual New York arrival for anything up to an ultra-long-range jet. VIP airliners and most international customs arrivals use JFK or Newark; Westchester is the quieter option for the Upper East Side and Connecticut.

Aircraft that suit a fifty-minute flight

A light jet or a turboprop is the most practical for under an hour and costs the least. A midsize cabin suits eight people or a working flight. Larger cabins make sense only if New York is one stop on a longer day.

When New York fills up

New York's private airports run near capacity all year. On these dates a temporary flight restriction or a slot programme can change the airport you use, so we plan them early.

  1. September United Nations General Assembly The week of the General Debate brings flight restrictions and a slot programme at Teterboro; Westchester and Newark absorb the overflow.
  2. Late August to September US Open Two weeks of inbound traffic to Westchester and Teterboro, peaking on the finals weekend.
  3. February and September Fashion Week Short, intense weeks of European arrivals; Teterboro parking is the constraint.
  4. Thanksgiving The long weekend The Wednesday before and the Sunday after are the busiest private days of the year on the East Coast.
  5. December to January Christmas and New Year Outbound to Florida, the Caribbean and the mountains peaks in the week before Christmas.
  6. Summer Fridays The Hamptons and Nantucket Friday afternoons and Sunday evenings from May to September fill the light jets and helicopters.

New York to Washington

The return leaves from Teterboro, Westchester or Newark and lands at Dulles, Manassas or, with the clearance in place, Reagan National. Flight time is the same fifty-five minutes. An evening departure from Teterboro lands in Washington in time for dinner.

Teterboro's voluntary curfew runs from 11 pm to 6 am, so a late return may leave from Westchester or Newark. In UN week, Teterboro runs a slot programme and the airports to the west absorb the overflow.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private jet from Washington to New York cost?

Indicative one-way prices for the whole aircraft start at about $6,000 in a light jet; about $7,500 in a midsize jet; about $9,500 in a super-midsize jet; about $14,000 in a heavy jet. Repositioning, overnight parking and handling are quoted separately once we know your dates, and a return with the aircraft waiting is usually priced well below two one-way flights.

How long is the flight?

About 55 minutes from boarding to landing for the cabins shown on this page, depending on the aircraft, the winds and the airports at each end. Every cabin class listed flies it without a stop.

Which airports can I use?

From Washington: Washington Dulles, Reagan National and Manassas. Into New York: Teterboro, Westchester County and Newark Liberty. Each is described above with its drive time and the operators that handle private flights there.

How do immigration and customs work on arrival?

International arrivals clear US Customs and Border Protection at the FBO at JFK, Newark or Westchester, or at Teterboro by prior arrangement. ESTA or a visa is required for most nationalities; we confirm when we book.

Can my dog travel with me?

Pets travel in the cabin. Entering the US, a dog needs a microchip, a CDC import form and a rabies vaccination record from most countries; we arrange the paperwork with the handler.

Can I pay for the charter with crypto?

Yes. Bank transfer in any major currency; crypto also accepted. Tell us your preferred coin and we confirm the network and payment instructions with the contract.

Do you arrange the car at each end?

Yes. We coordinate chauffeured cars on both ends, so a car meets you at the aircraft in New York and the driver knows the airport's private terminal.

Where would you like to fly?

Tell us what you have in mind. Our team will take care of the charter arrangements and discuss crypto payment if you prefer.
