Chicago to Vegas: the lakefront to the Strip in one flight

Chicago to Las Vegas is 1,515 miles, about three and three-quarter hours westbound. Every cabin from a light jet up flies it non-stop, so the choice is about comfort and the size of the group, not range. Las Vegas is two hours behind Chicago: a noon departure lands at about 1.45 pm local time.

In Las Vegas there are three airports to choose from. Harry Reid is ten to fifteen minutes from the Strip. Henderson Executive is quieter, about twenty minutes from the south end of the Strip and closest to Henderson and Lake Las Vegas. North Las Vegas is the shortest drive to Summerlin, suits light jets, and almost always has space on a busy weekend.

This route peaks with the conventions. CES in January and the big autumn trade shows bring Chicago companies west in numbers, and the winter months add the weekend traffic of people leaving the snow behind. Book those dates a week or two ahead.

Chicago to North Las Vegas (VGT)

North Las Vegas Airport is the third private field in the valley and the one to choose for Summerlin, Red Rock and the northwest of the city: fifteen to twenty minutes to the Strip and closer still to Summerlin. There is no scheduled airline service, so the ramp is quick to get through.

Its two main runways are about 5,000 ft long, which suits the light and midsize jets most people fly from Chicago: a Phenom 300, a Citation CJ4, an XLS or a Latitude. Super-midsize and heavy jets go to Harry Reid or Henderson instead. On a fight weekend or during CES, when Harry Reid's ramp is full, North Las Vegas is the field we look at next for a smaller aircraft.

What the flight costs

Prices below are indicative one-way figures for the whole aircraft, not per seat. They cover the flight, crew and fuel; de-icing in Chicago, parking in Las Vegas, repositioning and handling are quoted separately once we know your dates.

For a weekend, keeping the aircraft in Las Vegas for two nights usually costs less than two one-way flights. For a convention week, a one-way each way is often better value, and empty legs back to the Midwest come up regularly.

Departure airports in Chicago

Chicago has four airports that suit a private departure. Midway is the closest to the Loop and handles most of them; Chicago Executive in Wheeling serves the North Shore; DuPage covers the western suburbs; O'Hare takes the VIP airliners and the long international flights.

MDW

Chicago Midway International

Best for
The Loop, River North, the Gold Coast, McCormick Place
Drive
20 to 30 min to the Loop
FBO
Signature, Atlantic Aviation

The closest airport to downtown, open around the clock. Its 6,500 ft runways take every cabin on domestic legs; a large jet leaving at maximum weight for a long international flight uses O'Hare.

PWK

Chicago Executive, Wheeling

Best for
The North Shore, Northbrook, Lake Forest
Drive
30 to 45 min to the Loop, 15 min to Winnetka
FBO
Signature, Atlantic Aviation

The North Shore's own airport, with no airline traffic and a quick turn at the FBO. Its 5,000 ft runway suits light and midsize jets; larger cabins are planned case by case.

ORD

O'Hare International

Best for
Heavy jets, VIP airliners, international arrivals
Drive
30 to 50 min to the Loop
FBO
Signature

No weight limits and full customs. Private traffic uses its own FBO on the field, away from the terminals, but taxi times are long at the airline peaks.

Arrival airports in Las Vegas

Harry Reid puts you on the Strip fastest. Henderson and North Las Vegas trade a few minutes of driving for quieter ramps, which matters on the big event weekends.

Aircraft for a four-hour flight to the desert

Under four hours is comfortable in a light jet for two to four people. A group heading out for the weekend, with golf clubs and suit bags, fits better in a midsize or super-midsize jet, where you can stand up and the hold takes everything. If you want North Las Vegas for Summerlin, a light or midsize jet is the right size for its runways.

When Las Vegas fills up

On these dates aircraft, slots and hotel suites all go early. Booking a week or two ahead is the difference between a choice of aircraft and whatever is left.

  1. January CES The largest convention of the year. Harry Reid slots and FBO parking go first; Henderson is the pressure valve.
  2. May EDC Las Vegas Late-night traffic around the Speedway. Plan a Henderson or North Las Vegas arrival.
  3. November Las Vegas Grand Prix Strip road closures make airport choice and ground transport the whole game. We arrange both together.
  4. December National Finals Rodeo Ten days of near-capacity hotels and steady private traffic.
  5. Fight weekends Championship boxing and UFC Announced a few weeks out and instantly busy. Light jets are the quickest to secure.
  6. New Year's Eve The Strip fireworks Book the return before the outbound; the morning of 1 January is the tightest departure window of the year.

Las Vegas to Chicago

Eastbound the flight is about three and a quarter hours with the tailwind, and you lose two hours. A noon departure from Las Vegas lands at Midway at about 5.15 pm Chicago time.

Sunday afternoon and the morning after a big fight are the busiest departure windows at Harry Reid. We book the return slot with the outbound, and in winter we watch the Chicago forecast so the arrival airport can switch from Chicago Executive to Midway before you take off.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a private jet from Chicago to Las Vegas cost?

Indicative one-way prices for the whole aircraft start at about $20,500 in a light jet, $24,500 in a midsize jet, $30,000 in a super-midsize jet and $41,000 in a heavy jet. A weekend with the aircraft waiting usually costs less than two one-way flights.

How long is the flight from Chicago to Vegas?

About three hours forty-five westbound and three and a quarter hours back. Las Vegas is two hours behind Chicago.

Can I fly private from Chicago to North Las Vegas?

Yes, in a light or midsize jet. North Las Vegas Airport (VGT) is fifteen to twenty minutes from the Strip and the closest field to Summerlin. Its runways are about 5,000 ft, so super-midsize and heavy jets land at Harry Reid or Henderson instead.

Which Chicago airport do flights to Las Vegas leave from?

Midway for most departures, twenty-five minutes from the Loop. Chicago Executive in Wheeling is closer to the North Shore. O'Hare is for VIP airliners and the largest groups.

Are flights busier during CES and conventions?

Yes. CES in January and the large trade shows fill Harry Reid's private ramp days ahead. On those dates we usually land at Henderson or North Las Vegas and book a week or two out.

Can I pay for the charter with crypto?

Yes. Bank transfer in any major currency; crypto also accepted. Tell us your preferred coin and we confirm the network and payment instructions with the contract.

Can a group of friends share one aircraft?

Yes. The price is for the aircraft, not per seat, so eight friends in a midsize jet pay the same total as four. We invoice one person or company.

Where would you like to fly?

Tell us what you have in mind. Our team will take care of the charter arrangements and discuss crypto payment if you prefer.
